What is the difference between the Certificate, Diploma and Advanced Diploma Personal Trainer Courses?
All our personal training certification courses are recognised by REPs and consist of the ten mandatory units as required for all nationally qualified personal trainers. Some courses, like our Level 3 Diploma in Personal Trainer Courses and Level 4 Advance Personal Trainer & Life Coach contain additional qualifications which are not compulsory but arm you with a greater skill set and greatly improve your chance of employment and your ability to help your clients achieve the results they desire.
All our personal training course options will allow you to register on REPs at level 3. The Level 4 Advanced Personal Trainer & Life Coach course will allow you to register on REPs at Level 4.
Payment plans are available, contact us for options.
What is the difference between the role of a gym instructor and personal trainer?
The Gym Instructor
Most gyms hire level 2 gym instructors to write general programmes for apparently healthy adults and carry out general supervision of people exercising on gym equipment. They cannot work with special populations or clients with medical problems because the Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing Gym does not equip them to work with these groups of people. Gym instructors are also expected to clean equipment and carry out administrative duties within the gym. Gym instructors can expect to earn an average of £12-14K a year.
Gym instructors are not permitted to write programmes or work one-on-one their own clients.
The Personal Trainer
Level 3 Personal Trainers are able to offer advanced exercise programming, conduct fitness tests and advise on nutrition, weight management, injury prevention and rehabilitation. Personal trainers charge upwards £15 p/hour and earn on average £30k a year, although many earn considerably more.
Health clubs offer different working propositions to personal trainers with many personal trainers being self employed. They pay a rent to health clubs, allowing them to train clients in the health club.
If you wish to train clients, then the Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training is the minimum qualification you require.
What are the pre-requisites for the Personal Trainer Courses?
There are no pre-requisites for any of our personal trainer courses. Everything you need to know will be covered during course. Ideally you will have a keen interest in fitness and already be training yourself.
If you already hold a Level 2 Gym Instructor, you will move start at the level 3 part of the course. NB: exemptions for existing qualifications may be available. Please contact one of our career advisers for more information.

What is the difference between the different personal trainer study options?
No matter how you study the course, there is no difference in the final qualification you receive. The final certificate is issued by Central YMCA Qualifications and is fully recognised by REPs. Your certificate does not state how you studied.
The different study options allow you to study in a way that is suited to your personal preference and available time. If you work full-time, the distance study option may be best. If you are able to get time off work, then you may prefer the intensive course option. No matter what your lifestyle, we have the study option that will get you started in your new career ASAP.
Distance Study - study from home at your own pace with the OPTIONAL FREE support of attending evening eClasses (web conferencing) two nights a week; either Monday & Wednesday OR Tuesday & Thursday depending on your start date. Then attend assessment days at one of our assessment centres nationwide.
Intensive Study - study some material online from home and then attend classes at one of our venues nationwide from Monday - Friday.
Saturday Study - study some material online from home and then attend classes at one of our venues nationwide over a set number of consecutive Saturdays.
